A MESSAGE FROM ED NEWMAN

Thank you for being here.

I’m running for Sheriff of Granville County because I believe this office deserves experienced, steady leadership—leadership built on service, accountability, and a clear understanding of the job.

For more than 30 years, I served this county in every division of the Sheriff’s Office. I worked the road, led teams, managed operations, and handled real problems where they happen—not from behind a desk. I retired in November 2025 prepared to lead this office from day one, and I continue to serve as an active-duty police officer because public safety is not something you walk away from.

This website was created to give you a clear, honest look at who I am, what I stand for, and how the Sheriff’s Office works. You’ll find information about the responsibilities of the Sheriff, the role of each division, how your tax dollars are used, and why experience matters when it comes to protecting lives and defending rights. I believe an informed public builds a stronger, more trusted Sheriff’s Office. As we travel this journey to March I will be adding information.

Looking forward, my goal is simple—protecting Granville County by focusing on what actually keeps people safe:

A Sheriff’s Office that gets back to the basics of real law enforcement—protecting life, upholding the Constitution, supporting deputies, fighting drugs, supporting community needs and serving this county with professionalism and integrity. An office our citizens can trust and the people who work there can be proud of.

This campaign isn’t about politics. It’s about leadership, preparation, and the future of public safety in Granville County. I’m asking for your trust, your support, and your vote so we can move this office forward together.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more. I’m honored to serve, and I’m ready to lead.

God Bless,

— Ed Newman

DRUG ENFORCEMENT

Ed Newman is a firm supporter of the 2nd amendment  and the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. As a law enforcement professional, he understands that responsible gun owners are not the problem—and should never be treated as such.

Ed believes in responsible gun ownership and protecting the right of citizens to defend themselves, their families, and their property, while focusing enforcement on criminals who misuse firearms. His oath to uphold the Constitution is not selective—it applies fully to every right it protects. Uphold the Constitution without compromising Supporting the Second Amendment is not political—it’s constitutional, and it’s part of the job.

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN

DRUG ENFORCEMENT

Our fight against drugs has never been more important than it is right now. Families across this country are breaking under the weight of addiction, and Granville County has felt that same pain. When neighboring counties crack down harder, the problem doesn’t disappear—it shifts. And too often, it shifts straight into our backyard.

I will aggressively work to remove drugs from our county—shutting down dealers, disrupting trafficking routes, and protecting our neighborhoods. And I will stand with our community to send a clear message to lawmakers: the consequences for pushing this poison must be stronger.

EXPERIENCE MATTERS

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN

For more than three decades, Ed Newman wore the badge with one purpose: protecting the people of Granville County and honoring the oath he swore to serve. His experience was earned the hard way—on patrol, on midnight shifts, in investigations, narcotics, the courtroom, and along side of many of you. He didn’t learn this job from the sidelines. He lived it.

Ed has worked in every division. He has led divisions. And when he retired in November 2025, he did so fully prepared to lead this office from day one.

PROTECTING YOUR RIGHTS

PROTECTING YOUR RIGHTS

A Sheriff’s job is to protect your life, defend your rights, respect your property, and uphold the Constitution-every time, without exception.

For more than 30 years, I’ve lived that responsibility. As Sheriff, I will continue to protect your rights, your land, and your property without compromise and without politics.

Community Focused

Long-standing working relationships

Long-standing working relationships

I have always believed that change starts in our own backyard. Being involved in the community and spending quality time with neighbors has never felt separate from the job—it has always been part of it. That commitment to showing up, listening, and being present has allowed me to build strong relationships throughout Granville County.

Long-standing working relationships

Long-standing working relationships

Long-standing working relationships

Over the course of my career, I have built strong working relationships with local, state, and federal partnering agencies. Those relationships matter—especially when it comes to fighting drugs, addressing violent crime, and responding to major incidents.

Effective law enforcement doesn’t happen in isolation. It requires cooperation, communication, and trust between agencies. Because those relationships are already in place, Granville County is better positioned to share intelligence, coordinate enforcement efforts, and hold criminals accountable across county and jurisdictional lines.

Mental Illness

Long-standing working relationships

Fighting for Deputies’ Pay and Retirement

Mental illness is real, and it affects families in every part of our county. As your Sheriff, I believe it must be addressed with compassion, responsibility, and common sense—while always protecting public safety.

Law enforcement is often the first to respond when someone is in crisis. That reality means deputies must be trained to recognize mental health issues, de-escalate situations when possible, and connect individuals with appropriate resources—without putting the public or deputies at risk.

Fighting for Deputies’ Pay and Retirement

The men and women who serve in the Sheriff’s Office deserve fair pay, strong benefits, and a retirement system that reflects the sacrifices they make every day. Supporting deputies isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s essential to building a strong, professional law enforcement agency.

As Sheriff, I will advocate for competitive pay and benefits that help recruit and retain qualified deputies. When experienced deputies leave because they can’t support their families or see a future here, the entire county feels it. Public safety depends on experience, stability, and morale.

School Safety

Fighting for Deputies’ Pay and Retirement

School Safety

Before School Resource Officers were formally established, deputies stepped in wherever they were needed. In the 1990s, we watched schools in the mornings, worked security details, and did what we could to keep students safe. I was one of many deputies who took on that responsibility because it mattered.

When School Resource Officers were later implemented, it changed everything. It brought consistency, presence, and a dedicated focus on school safety. Over the years, I’ve watched the SRO program grow through multiple administrations as the importance of a law enforcement presence in our schools became clearer.
